DOUGLAS GARY MILLER
Douglas Gary Miller, 74, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2017, at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 2, 2017, at Montlawn Funeral Home, 2911 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC, with the Reverend Wesley Taylor officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
Doug was born on August 30, 1942 in Horry County, South Carolina. He was one of seven children born to the late Gary Neal Miller and Addie Sarvis Miller. Doug graduated from Loris High School in 1960 and enlisted in the U. S. Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Doug worked in several industries and retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad in 2002. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing with his brother John, and was a true sports fan, watching all the basketball, football, baseball games, and NASCAR races.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Jane, who passed away in 2011; his brother Jackie Miller, and his brother Michael Miller.
Doug is survived by his loving daughter, Traci Tate and husband Joel of Midlothian, VA, his grandchildren, Haley and Conner Dusenbury, and his stepson Christopher Collins (Megan) of Garner, NC. He is also survived by his sisters, Liz Lathrop (Tom) of Oriental, NC, and Linda Ball (Buddy) of High Point, NC; his brothers, Donald Miller (Janeen) of Bonneau, SC, and John Miller (Cathy) of Yonges Island, SC; brother-in-law, Marshall Cain (Sandy) of Richmond, VA; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also left behind is his faithful dog, “Phoebe”.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Garner Relay for Life at www.garnerrelay.org .
