Obituary for Ethyleen Hobbs

Ethyleen Hobbs
Ethyleen Bryson Hobbs, 93, a native of Raleigh, NC died peacefully Friday, April 14, 2017 after a lengthy illness. Ethyleen was born to the late Thomas Newton Bryson and Ethel Leona Evans. She grew up in Boylan Heights and attended Hugh Morson High School followed by a year at Meredith College, before marrying her high school sweetheart Milton Ernest Hobbs, Jr. They had three children before she resumed her Home Economics courses at Meredith, where she graduated Cum Laude and was a member of Kappa Nu Sigma honor society.
Upon graduation in 1956, she began teaching at Leroy Martin Junior High, and later moved to Josephus Daniels where she taught Home Economics and Earth Science. As a dedicated teacher, she was elected and served as a member of the North Carolina Association of Educators Board of Directors from 1972 – 1974. She received a special service award for outstanding service to education and teaching from the same NCAE before retirement.
A life long active Christian, Ethyleen’s faith was the source of her bountiful energy which was churned into loving service to her family, community and church. Her final choice of Christian fellowship was West Raleigh Presbyterian Church. There she was a member and a teacher in the Alice Broom class.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:30 P.M. Thursday, April 20, 2017 in the Montlawn Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends Thursday at the funeral home from 1:00 – 1:30 P.M. Burial will follow in Montlawn Memorial Park.
Ethyleen was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Milton E. Hobbs, Jr., and her sister, Madge Mobley.
She is survived by her three children, Milton E. Hobbs, III, Sandra and Ashok Ullal, and Thomas N. and Susan Hobbs, two sisters, Mildred Lewis and Betty Gregory, five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Transitions LifeCare, founded as Hospice of Wake County, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27606 or at
